Kissybook! [Feb. 13th, 2007|01:28 am]
The Book Arts Community

Hi everyone, I'm a first-time poster!

I'm currently doing a big collaborative illustration book project called the Kissybook, link below.

Right now I'm looking for illustration submissions. Here's an excerpt from the webpage describing the project for those of you who might be interested:

The Kissybook is a not-for-profit open illustration book project to comment on love and identity.

The goal is to create a lighthearted illustrated book exemplifying that love can exist between everyone despite all facets of identity, gender, race, sexuality, cultures, and other differences, using kisses as a universally recognizable as a symbol for affection.

Book form makes the project compact and easily distributable, as well as inviting to flip through -- flirty and welcoming, just like a sweet kiss!

While the book itself is curated for publication (for obvious economic reasons!), there are even more drawings online for an even more encompassing experience. Kissybook is not a contest! Every kiss has its place.

If it's your cup of tea, please come check it out! :)  This is gonna be x-posted all over the place, so feel free to link it if you have friends who would be interested!

Awl [Jun. 7th, 2006|05:06 pm]

I'm shopping for a new awl because mine just broke.  :(  Being new to book binding, I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence?  Would I have had better luck with a more expensive awl?  I'm willing to spend the money if it will last.
I would appreciate any feedback.  Thanks!!  :)

Little book [Apr. 30th, 2006|02:35 pm]

Just a couple photos of a little accordion book I made last week. The inside is a double-sided Toray silicone intaglio print -- I'll take more shots of it tomorrow. I like the presentation I came up with. The ribbons hang down and gently sway with any breeze!

Thanks for looking!

binding with papyrus? (first community post) [Aug. 4th, 2005|11:43 am]
The Book Arts Community

i can't believe i've been on livejournal this long and not done a search for bookbinding information. *shake head at self* hi y'all!

i'm an amateur bookbinder with a new project. i'm making a slim photobook for my parents. it's going to be around 8x10, between 4-8 pages, bound hardcover using davey board. i'd like to use papyrus in the binding process. has anyone ever bound with papyrus before?

i'm not thinking that it would not be a good material for the spine or edges of the book, and am thinking of using a wide sheet in the center of the cover, and using regular bookcloth or paper for the spine and edges.

any ideas? caveats?
